e3live brain on reviewE3Live BrainON Overview

In the past year, I have watched a half a dozen documentaries on food. However, these were the not type that make you hungry! Films like “Food, Inc.,” “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead,”Forks over Knives,” and others eschew the factory farms that have become so common in modern culture. Michael Pollan, the author of The Omnivore’s Dilemma, has become somewhat of a household name. These films and the popular author tout the benefits of whole, raw foods.

E3 Live is an Oregon-based company that sells all organic “feel good food” for healthy lifestyles. They offer products that span the spectrum from women’s health to joint support to blood sugar and everything in between. BrainON is of their most popular products.

Blue green algaeE3Live BrainON Ingredients

The ingredient list for BrainON is amazingly short. Like other E3 products, it is virtually completely composed of organic, liquid fresh-frozen, wild-harvested Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA) blue-green algae from Upper Klamath Lake in Oregon.  These algae are a source of dietary protein, B vitamins, and iron.

BrainON is different from original E3Live in that it contains extra phenylethylamine (PEA), which is also extracted from the AFA algae. PEA is the same compound found in chocolate that is believed to produce pleasurable effects on mood. However, E3Live BrainON contains roughly 50 times more PEA than chocolate (without the calories!). This wonder molecule is believed to have anti-depressant qualities and is hypothesized to be involved in the feelings ranging from “runner’s high” to romantic love.

E3Live BrainON Benefits

e3live brain on benefitsSo why would you willingly eat algae? Because they are actually incredibly nutritional plants! The algae in Upper Klamath Lake is special, because it is one of the few remaining alkaline lakes left. Upper Klamath Lake is naturally eutrophic, meaning there is a high concentration of nutrients that allows blue-green algae blooms to thrive. Many of the aforementioned documentaries discuss how the modern Western diet promotes an acidic bodily environment. Consuming algae from an alkaline lake helps the return to a more balanced state.

Unlike powdered forms, E3 live is sold as a frozen liquid, which means that the enzymes and nutrients are fully active for maximal benefit.

The specific benefits associated with E3Live BrainON are improved focus and clarity, brightened mood, decreased stress, enhanced feelings of well-being, increased mental function, and improved concentration.

E3Live BrainON Reviews

E3Live won the 2011 Best of Raw Award for Single Best Superfood. So what do customers think of E3Live BrainON? It’s worth mentioning that aside from the cost, I had a hard time finding any negative reviews!

Positive

Martin Brunell wrote the following on Amazon.com:

For years I’ve been a fan (and user) of E3LIVE products. But only recently have I tried the “Brain On” version of E3Live. This nutrient dense super food is actually shipped in frozen form from Klamath Lake. When it arrives at your house, you just store it in the freezer. When you are ready to have some, just take a bottle out of the freezer, and thaw out about 5 fluid ounces worth of liquid (put whatever is un-thawed back into the freezer). Then you put about 1-3 teaspoons of the liquid in your favorite drink and get ready to heal! Store whatever liquid you don’t use in your refrigerator (lasts for 7 days).

The first time I used “Brain-On” I noticed an immediate sensation of extreme well-being. I could tell that I just swallowed something “REALLY” good! I’ve been taking a few teaspoons of this product every day now.

Carol T submitted a 5-star review to the e3live website on 6/27/10:

The E3LiveBrainOn does just that, it turns your brain on. I find myself smiling a lot now. I feel more alert, happier and enjoying foods fresh from the garden. If I had to chose between a multivitamin & E3Live BrainOn, I would choose the BrainOn.

The imsorawkin.blogspot.com had nothing but good things to say:

My boyfriend and I kept hearing rave reviews about an E3Live product called ‘Brain On’ and felt compelled to check it out for ourselves. We each had out little teaspoon (the recommended starting dosage) and went about our day. We DID notice an alert energy that carried on through the day. We were definitely feeling focused and bright. It was awesome!

Neutral or negative

Gwen T didn’t notice an improvement over original E3 live and wrote the following on e3live.com on 3/2/10:

I ordered this with the hopes that it would be significantly different from regular E3 Live but I didn’t notice a difference at all. Actually I felt it wasn’t as good as regular E3 Live. The taste is very different too, I didn’t think it was worth the extra 20 dollars that I paid.

Revvell, a regular contributor to rawfoodtalk.com, wrote a neutral review on 2/29/08:

I took it; felt nothing different and forgot to take it since I didn’t get that “zing”.

E3Live BrainON Dosage & Directions

e3live brain on costThe serving size is 1 tablespoon, but most people start with 1 teaspoon a day and work their way up to the full dose. Some people may consume several ounces a day. Approximately 1 bottle per week (16 oz.) is suggested to achieve maximum results. The company recommends taking the product first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and drinking plenty of water after each dose.

It is important to keep the product frozen between uses.  A thawed 7-day supply should be moved into a new contained and stored in the coldest part of the refrigerator for weekly use, and the remainder should be frozen in its original bottle. The defrosted shelf life is 7-10 days, E3 BrainON will be less effective after this time frame!

Alternatively, the frozen product can be added to smoothies before blending. This is a more palatable option for those that don’t’ particularly care for the taste of green, raw foods. The E3Live website, twitter feed, and facebook account offer numerous inventive recipes for incorporating E3Live products into smoothies and foods.

Consuming algae is safe. Although contaminated blue-green algae may cause side effects, the algae source of E3Live is remarkably free of pollutants.

Some people may feel tired or have a slight headache when first starting an E3Live regimen. This may be because AFA contains a large amount of chlorophyll that helps the body cleanse itself of toxins. Fatigue and slight headache are likely detoxification symptoms. Therefore, it is important to increase your E3 use over time and to drink plenty of water to flush out toxins.

E3Live BrainON Cost

brain on priceA single bottle is $27.95, but because the product is shipped frozen the minimum order from the website is 6-16 oz. bottles (192 servings) at a cost of $204.90. There are minimal discounts for ordering larger quantities: 12 bottles (384 servings) are $387.12 and 24 bottles (768 servings) cost $728.64.

If you’re still keeping track, this means that the cost per serving ranges from $0.95-1.06 depending on the quantity purchased. Because BrainON is frozen, shipping is extra. Six bottles are $20, 12 bottles are $30, and 24 bottles are $40. Organic supermarkets like Whole Foods and smaller outfits also carry E3 products, but supplies may be limited.
